About

From the Lecture
Hall to the Saddle

Some children are born perfectly ordinary. And some are not. No one can tell the difference at first. They cry like other babies. They sleep. They grow. They learn to walk. But at night, when houses are quiet and the sky opens just a little, the fairies come. They float down through the dark with their small bowls of dust – dust made from constellations, from soft winds and from the sound of hooves echoing in the heavens. Then they gently sprinkle their special pony dust on the chosen ones. No one knows how the fairies choose. They simply know.

A graduate of Dalhousie University with a background in English, Sociology,
and Music, Beth Norrad’s true education began in the freshly bedded stalls of
England’s most rigorous riding school.

“The ability to stay aboard even the most unrideable creatures
— a skill honed where supervision was scarce and baler twine
was a perfectly acceptable piece of tack.”

Transitioning from the lecture hall to the saddle, she earned the moniker The Colonial Cowboy. For many years she co-founded and operated a premier riding school alongside Blair Williams, Liz Schroeder, and Barb McDonald mentoring a generation of riders who now lead stables of their own.
Today, Beth brings that same stay-onboard spirit to her writing, blending decades of equestrian expertise with the magic and heart of the horse world.
